Goethe Haus, more than a holiday home

This site was born from the idea of a group of Italian scholars who are passionately dedicated to the figure of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, one of the greatest thinkers and writers in European history.

Here you will find documents, letters, essays, articles and multimedia materials that tell the extraordinary life of Goethe: from his childhood in Frankfurt to his experiences as a man and an artist, to his most famous works, up to his travels in Italy that greatly influenced his vision of the world.

The goal is to make the rich heritage of ideas and texts that Goethe left us accessible to everyone – students, enthusiasts or simply the curious. We believe that his reflections on art, nature, science, love and freedom are still very relevant today and can speak to each of us.

To crown this project, the «GoetheHaus» was created, a House Museum dedicated to Goethe, located in the heart of the ancient Kalsa district of Palermo, where the artist stayed during his trip to Sicily. Inside the house there are portraits, relics, objects, documents and memorabilia that tell the many aspects of Goethe’s multifaceted personality: the poet, the traveller, the scientist, the philosopher.

Explore, read, learn more. This space is open, constantly updated and designed for those who want to learn more about a great protagonist of European culture.

Goethe has a lot to say. And we are here to listen to it with you.
